Women on Wings social enterprise partner since May 2024
Forest-dependent families face economic instability due to limited livelihood options, leading to unsustainable dependence on forest resources, which threatens both their welfare and environment. Nestled in Assam, India, AVACreations Social Impact Foundation is a non-profit organization working tirelessly to empower women from forest-dependent communities. Their mission is to provide these communities with an alternative livelihood source: the handloom and sericulture value chain. The “Hand-loom to Hope-loom” initiative of AVACreations tackles two critical issues simultaneously. By promoting handloom weaving and sericulture practices, particularly Muga & Eri silk production, the foundation reduces the communities’ dependence on the forest for income. This, in turn, fosters a more sustainable ecosystem.
With over 245 weavers empowered and partnerships with multiple retail outlets, AVACreations Social Impact Foundation is weaving a brighter future for both the forest communities and the environment. Additionally, the foundation connects artisans directly to markets, eliminating middlemen and ensuring fair compensation. Their dedication to sustainable practices and economic empowerment makes them a beacon of positive change.
AVACreations invests in training programs that enhance artisans’ skills, allowing them to adapt to evolving trends and create high-quality products. In September, 2021, they established their first community weaving center. They now are connected to 245+ weavers who are forest dwellers, have 3+ community weaving centers, are in 6+ retail outlets and have bold plans for expansion.
