Ellen Tacoma, Co-Founder and Joint Managing Director | Member of Women on Wings Board
Ellen Tacoma co-founded Women on Wings in 2007 with Maria van der Heijden. In 2016, she became a non-executive member of the Women on Wings board until September 2023 when she accepted the position of Joint Managing Director.
Ellen leads the Women on Wings organization alongside Shilpa Mittal Singh. Ellen’s accountability spans strategy development, organizational development, and financial management. A key responsibility is the final assessment of new partners.
Background
Director positions Ellen fulfilled in international organizations:
- COO and Director of the Accelerator at HiiL, working on user-friendly justice with social entrepreneurs across Africa and Ukraine.
- International CEO of the Social Enterprise Academy in Scotland, delivering leadership programs for social enterprises across the world.
Furthermore Ellen held different management roles in telecommunications with Ericsson and Telfort. And she has years of experience working at international advertising agencies working for large brands like Unilever, Aegon, Peugeot, Bols and Nutricia.
Ellen also co-founded and is a minority shareholder of FEM-start, an e-educational platform offering courses on funding and entrepreneurship for female entrepreneurs.

Shilpa Mittal Singh, Joint Managing Director | Member of Women on Wings Board
Shilpa joined Women on Wings in 2015 as joint managing director. From 2016 onwards she worked alongside former joint managing director Ronald van het Hof, when co-founders Ellen Tacoma and Maria van der Heijden transistioned to non-executive board members.
Since September 2023 Shilpa co-leads the organization alongside Ellen Tacoma.
Shilpa is responsible for overall strategy and stakeholder management with a primary focus on strategic alliances and partnerships in India, defining long-term strategy for growth and large-scale impact.
Background
Before joining Women on Wings, Shilpa worked with corporate organizations like ITC, Monster and Zeno, specializing in strategic management, sales and marketing. In 2008 she started her own entrepreneurial venture Spring Talent, a firm specializing in recruitment of senior level professionals which was active until 2012. Furthermore she was associated with Cankids, a non-profit support group working for children with cancer in India.
