FICCI FLO and Women on Wings join hands

FICCI Ladies Organization and Women on Wings have started collaborating to identify and support social enterprises working primarily with rural women in sectors such as agri, food processing, eco-tourism, textiles and handicrafts and NTFP. The goal of this support is to increase livelihood opportunities and growth of women artisans engaged with the selected organizations.

Empowering women
A Memorandum of Understanding was signed on Tuesday May 26, 2020, during a webinar which marked the official launch of the collaboration between FICCI Ladies Organization (FLO) and Women on Wings. Ms Jahnabi Phookan, who was newly elected as President of FLO on May 22, 2020: “I am excited to take the vision of the organization forward by promoting entrepreneurship and professional excellence among women. Women on Wings wonderfully matches our mission and I look forward to partner with them.” Adds Ronald van het Hof, joint MD at Women on Wings: “FICCI FLO and Women on Wings share a common vision of promoting grassroots enterprises and helping the women workers therein become economically independent. I believe this partnership will play a critical role in our effort to economically empower one million women in rural India.”

Connecting dots through 17 FLO chapters
Established in 1927, Federation of India’s Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) is the largest and oldest apex business organization in India. Its history is closely interwoven with India’s struggle for independence, its industrialization, and its emergence as one of the most rapidly growing global economies. FICCI Ladies Organization is a subsidiary of FICCI and as the name suggests, focusses on women entrepreneurs in specific. FLO’s role as the Womens’ Chamber of Commerce, is to connect the dots between Women on Wings and the social entrepreneurs through its bandwidth of 17 FLO chapters Pan India. This is in sync with FLO’s mission to work towards sustainable livelihood for women’s economic empowerment. Through these 17 chapters, FLO represents 8,000 female entrepreneurs and professionals.

FICCI
A non-government, not-for-profit organization, FICCI is the voice of India’s business and industry. From influencing policy to encouraging debate, engaging with policy makers and civil society, FICCI articulates the views and concerns of industry. It serves its members from the Indian private and public corporate sectors and multinational companies, drawing its strength from diverse regional chambers of commerce and industry across states, reaching out to over 2,50,000 companies.
FICCI provides a platform for networking and consensus building within and across sectors and is the first port of call for Indian industry, policy makers and the international business community.

“Women on Wings starts where others normally stop; sharing knowledge and skills is just as important as micro-finance.”
