Sanitary pads production unit up and running

This week, the first sanitary pad was produced at the new production unit in Latur, Maharashtra. This new unit was inaugurated by Dr. Maya Kulkarni, renowned gynaecologist. Women on Wings is collaborating with Aakar, SSP and Sakhi Retail in the set up of two new production units in the state of Maharashtra.

For five days, the women of the production en sales team are being trained on every aspect needed to run a successful unit. Dr. Kulkarni explained the intricacies of menstrual hygiene management to the team. The program is not just about the production and sale of sanitary pads, but also provides an educational and awareness program for women and girls in the region.

The pads are most comparable to those of well-known global brands. The unit has a production capacity of 1,600 – 2,000 pads per day. The pads will be sold in over 40 villages near the unit in Latur.

“In order to reach our goal of one million jobs for women in rural India, we have a strong focus on job creating business models in textile and food & agri.”
