Empowering farmers and conserving seeds: Women on Wings’ partnership with Prem Samridhhi Foundation

At Women on Wings, our assignments are driven by the twin goals of sustainable growth and increased impact for women in rural India. Recently, we had the privilege of supporting the Prem Samridhhi Foundation (PSF), a dedicated social enterprise partner focused on smallholder farmers and the critical work of indigenous seed conservation, ensuring agricultural biodiversity and resilience.

Our core challenge was to explore the feasibility of bringing a new staples/grocery brand to market for PSF. To provide clear, actionable insights, Women on Wings e-commerce sales and marketing expert Ellen Oord and Senior Business Consultant Shashi Mahlawat conducted a strategic deep dive with the Prem Samridhhi Foundation team.

Strategic groundwork for sustainable growth

We began our analysis with the farmers themselves. We calculated the crop-wise impact, measuring income per farmer and overall margins. This crucial analysis allows PSF to prioritize the crops that truly drive income, laying the vital groundwork for sustainable scaling.

We also conducted a thorough evaluation of the foundation’s farmer producer organization, identifying specific strengths and weaknesses, as well as opportunities and threats for the new brand launch.

Strategic analysis maximizes returns and more jobs for women

A concrete path to market: Bundi Naturals

The result of this collaboration is a concrete action plan for launching Bundi Naturals as a distinct consumer brand. This strategic move positions PSF to maximize returns on their agricultural products.

Crucially, the income generated from this new brand will flow directly back into furthering PSF’s critical social mission: co-creating more sustainable jobs for women in rural India. This is the core of our work and the heart of this partnership.

We are so very grateful for this ongoing collaboration with Ravi Mehta and Padam Kumar Jain of the Prem Samridhhi Foundation.
