Elections outcome for Indian women in rural areas?

Today, as we are waiting for the election results to arrive Friday 16 May, we released a press item to the Dutch media. It covered some of the following.

“There is clearly a social trend in India: women empowerment is high on the agenda. Indian newspapers and magazines last year wrote a lot about this subject”, says Ronald van het Hof, Managing Director of Women on Wings India, the organization that aims to create one million jobs for women in rural India.

Van het Hof: “We see that the programs of corporate social responsibility (CSR) of the big corporates also increasingly specifically focus on women empowerment in addition to water, education, and health, in the belief that it will have an impact on the development of the country.”

Whatever coalition will be formed, the position of the women can no longer be ignored.
