A job and an income break through the vicious circle for women

Research carried out by Nienke Hekket at Maastricht University teaches us that it is vital for women to be able to spend the money they earn on education, particularly for their daughters. In this vein, a good education also means better chances for a good marriage for the girls. As well as this, work gives women a greater sense of value. Their job gives them freedom of movement; they get to know other women with whom they can talk about personal issues and from whom they can learn. Moreover, having a specific skill helps raise their self-confidence. The jobs created contribute to the welfare and wellbeing of women and families in India.

That’s how it works for employees at Jharcraft
Nienke Hekket carried out research at Jharcraft for her studies on Globalization and Development Studies at Maastricht University. From April 1 to April 22, 2012 she interviewed 35 women to investigate the relationship between a job and an income and the strengthening of the position of women in society.
