Jaipur Rugs: master of hand-knotted rugs

Ellen Tacoma and Tanveen Ratti of Women on Wings worked hard last July to promote Jaipur Rugs. An important development in this promotion was the partnership entered into with famous designer Jenny Jones who will be introduced next year. Women on Wings drafted a PR action plan with the help of the communications team and also designed a special product label to help create brand loyalty among customers. Jaipur Rugs has provided jobs for 40,000 women in ten Indian states. These women hand-knot each rug, meaning each individual product demands specific attention, care and quality. Over 73 manoeuvres are required to create one finished, hand-knotted rug.

“Women on Wings has helped to improve the lives of more than 200,000 families in rural India. By sharing knowledge and skills, it enables women to earn their own living. A wonderful example of helping people make a better future for themselves and their communities.”
