Kovel Foundation

Kovel Foundation

Business partner since July 2021

Kovel Foundation’s mission is to improve the livelihoods, well-being, and quality of life of forest dependent tribal families in Telugu states and outside. The trust provides professional and management assistance and services to tribal forest produce collectors.

Its vision is to increase the annual income for 100,000 tribal families to a minimum of 50,000 Rupees in Telugu states by 2025. It supports tribal families in training, skill development and marketing of non-timber forest produce (NFTP). That could be products like brooms, coffee, turmeric, siali leaves and medicinal plants like tamarind and amla. The tribal families are organized in Farmer Producer Organizations, some of which are established with the support of the Kovel Foundation.

Founded in 1994, Kovel Foundation is headquartered at Visakhapatnam, in the state of Andhra Pradesh, with the support of Girijan Cooperative Corporation Limited which procures some of the NTFP on monopoly basis to avoid middlemen so the tribal people earn a fairer income.

Women on Wings and Kovel Foundation joined hands to realize their shared mission to increase the number of jobs and create livelihood opportunities for women in rural India.

“Through this partnership with Women on Wings, we want to enable more women to earn their own income that will give them greater financial means to improve their livelihoods. Economic independence for women means more children can go to school, more meals per day for their families and communities, and an overall better standard of living for them and future generations”
