Creating impact through social media

The purpose of social media is to discover, be inspired, create, connect and share. It’s important for any company, but especially if there is an impactful story to tell. That’s why Women on Wings organized a 2-day Social Media Summit for its business partners on May 19 and 20, 2017, which was attended by 35 participants.

Story telling creates brand awareness
Stefan Bakker, social media expert at Women on Wings, took the participants on a 2-day journey, explaining the importance of a dedicated social media strategy and giving tools to implement this in their organizations. Stefan: “Social media should become part of the daily business strategy. An integrated approach of social media and other online means of communication will strengthen a company’s message. Of course all Women on Wings partners want to sell their products. But they all have inspiring stories of the rural women behind the products. That’s a wonderful USP that deserves a spotlight on social media.”

Remodeling social media
The audience was eager to learn, and shared very positive feedback at the end of the Summit which was held at Club Patio, Gurgaon. For many of them the two days were not even enough. Debaleena Ray, Operations & Social Media Manager at Tamul Plates: “I think the workshop was very engrossing. Especially Stefan’s bit was very informative. I could try out the new tools of Facebook and Twitter right there and I’ve started remodeling our social media platform. I wish we could dig a little deeper and do the analytics at length. The Facebook and Google bit were also informative.” Some participants invited Stefan to come and work dedicated with them and their company teams on the social media strategy.

Learning from posts
Stefan Bakker also showed the possibilities of the ‘behind the scenes’ of social media, like the use of statistics, planning tools and the power of hashtags. There is a whole world behind posting a message or picture, which should be analyzed on a regular base to improve the effect of social media and reach out to a larger audience. Also Google India and Facebook & Instagram India had offered their expertise to share with the participants. They inspired the participants by sharing stories of entrepreneurs that built successful companies thanks to social media and explained their support programs for nonprofits.
