A tribute to rural Barmer fashion show

‘Handmade in Rajasthan, a tribute to Barmer’ was celebrated at Albert hall, Jaipur, on the occasion of Rajasthan Day on March 29, 2017. Women on Wings business partner Gramin Vikas Chetna Sansthan (GVCS) presented exquisite crafts from its artisans. Some of the female artisans walked the ramp in guidance of Mrs. Ruma Devi, President of GVCS.

Artisans and VIP’s join the stage
The garments were designed by Mrs. B.B. Rasel, the fabric used in the garments was designed by Mr. Vikram Singh and Mrs. Ruma Devi, both of GVCS, and the accessories were made by the artisans of GVCS. The garments were presented by Mr. India, Jitesh Thakur, super model Nainika Chatterjee and thirty other top models. The guests of honor were Chief Minister of Rajasthan, Mrs. Vasundhra Raje, the Royal Queen of Bhutan and singer Mr. Mohit.

Empowering female artisans
The fashion show was a huge step in the empowerment of the participating female artisans. For GVCS it was a great recognition of its work towards increasing livelihoods and sustaining crafts. Since August 2015, Women on Wings and GVCS collaborate in creating more job opportunities for women in the Barmer region.

“I truly enjoy our collaboration in which we co-created an impact on the lives of over 39,000 rural families in Assam.”
