Creating effective cooperation between artisans and designers

Women on Wings’ business partner GoCoop hosted a two day workshop on May 9 and 10 in Bangalore with a group of weaver co-ops, designers, artisans, marketing and development agencies. Participants came from all over India to explore ways of working together in promoting equitable partnerships between craft and design. Women on Wings joint MD Ronald van het Hof moderated a session on marketing.

The two day workshop was a space to consider some new developments, such as craft subscriptions, e-commerce platforms, growing ethical consciousness and new online publications. The network will continue to work on key tools to promote partnerships. These include a partner checklist for artisans and designers, guidelines for consumers on how to buy craft and a design incubator to work with India’s extensive cooperative sector.

The workshop reflected practical engagements with the Sangam Code of Practice for Partnerships in Craft & Design and the success of GoCoop’s platform for representing the extensive network of Indian cooperatives.
